· What sort of a job would you like to have? To achieve this goal, what steps will you need to take?
· What are your wishes for the 21st century? Make a wish list of 5 items for the world!

Dear everyone
You are welcome to blog in as a class group OR as individual students. Just leave your comment down the bottom, by clicking on Comments or Leave a Reply. Make a comment about what other students have written if you find it interesting or have learned something from it! Please DON’T use your surnames in your user names or sign offs. Please DO tell us the name of your school when you sign off!
Wow – there is so much to cover this week. Our identity comes from who we are, where we come from and what we do – we’ve been discussing these ideas up to now. This week, we focus on the idea that our identity is built by the dreams we work towards and our hopes for our future. We need to know who we are, where we come from and where we are going to build a strong identity. We need to have at least one person who believes in us and we need to believe in ourselves. Tell me what size families you want and what sort of jobs you would like to have. Let me know what your group’s wishes are for the 21st century – if you have these wishes, you may work extra hard to make them happen…
Looking forward to hearing about everyone’s hopes for the future…
Cheers

Hi everyone!
One of our school’s new class teachers, who used to live in a distant part of Australia called Kowanyama, found us an excellent, short video (on the Internet) of how the Aboriginal population of the town is learning to cope with the threat of global warning.
http://ourworld.unu.edu/en/2009/01/19/sea-level-rise-in-kowanyama/
In the video, which we played on our new interactive whiteboard, we saw how the Aboriginal Elders are trying to make sure the younger Aboriginal people of the area do not lose their identities as the rising tides sweep away all traces of the previous residents of the area.
We learned so much about identity from such a short video. It also is helping us to consider our own wishes for the 21st century.

Mr McLean,

Hi all rappers,
The best half of 5/6 D read Daphne Bell’s interview in “Strong Identity – Proud Future” and then thought about our future families, careers and wishes for the world.
Laura wants to have one boy and one girl. Courteney wants fraternal twins. Stefan doesn’t want any children because “They’re trouble!” Natalie wants two or three children but wouldn’t like them to be all the same gender. Amira wants two or three children. Quayde comes from a large family and would like twelve children of his own. Blake would have no children so he could have “a normal life”.
Laura wants to become a famous pop singer. She will need to practise hard.
Courteney wants to be “a homemade mum” and thinks uni might be too boring, like school.
Stefan wants to work at Motorola, and would need to go to TAFE after finishing high school like his uncle.
Nat plans to go to university to become an orthodontist. Her aunty has experience making false teeth.
Amira definitely wants to go to university, and then work in a bank, providing good service to customers. Her uncle wears very nice suits to work at the bank, and this is better than her dad wearing casual clothes to work in his takeaway food shop.
Quayde would like to design computer games and would need to study at uni.
Blake wants to be a vet, so would have to do first aid training for animals at university.
Our wishes for the world:
1. Stop the hunting of animals.
2. Invent hover cars that run on recycled leaves.
3. Get rid of traffic fumes – go solar!
4. Free the world of allergies.
5. Help the sick and homeless.

Hi all rappers,
The Fantastic Nine of 5/6 D read Maureen Wenzel’s interview in “Strong Identity – Proud Future”. Then we discussed our future families, careers and wishes for the world.
Shehzil wants three girls. Sweden would like two boys. Maddie would like one boy and two girls. Zach wants just one boy. Todd wants six children: three boys and three girls. Tanish wants eight children, four of each so they don’t fight with other. Naeem thinks he would like five children. Gemma wants one girl. Brooke doesn’t know what she’d like.
Shehzil would like to be a policewoman. She’ll need to try hard at school, and would choose her mum’s relative as a mentor because he’s a police officer.
Sweden would like to be a fashion designer like Paulini (yes! That famous Paulini from “Australian Idol”).
Maddie would like to work in a bank. She will need to go to TAFE. Maddie’s mother works for NAB, valuing houses, and she would be her mentor.
Zach would like to be a footy player for Penrith Panthers, like his friend’s dad.
Todd would like to be a Manly footballer, like his friend’s uncle (who’s in the Cowboys).
Tanish wants to be a pilot. He will need to increase his height and study engines. He would need to find a pilot mentor.
Naeem wants to be a car dealer. Dad’s friend would be his mentor. Naeem likes the idea of driving cars.
Gemma wants to work in a school as an AEO, like Mrs Nuttall.
Brooke wants to be a hairdresser, like her next door neighbour, Adrian. He sometimes lets Brooke help to colour people’s hair.
Our five top wishes for the world:
1. Solar powered cars.
2. Anti-graffiti plans.
3. Stop global warming.
4. Help people with problems (gambling, smoking, the poor).
5. Recycle.

Good day Hogan’s Heroes – Love your work! Wow – so much good discussion has gone on in your class – I can see that it is really true that when we put our ideas TOGETHER what we come up with is so STRONG. I suppose that is one very important thing about how you build a strong identity for your selves – we CAN’T do it on our own – we need the support of friends and family OR the inspiration which comes from mentors or celebrities we admire…
There is such a wide range of occupations you are interested in – I am blown away – what a fantastic group you are! I can see that you have a clear idea about the steps you will need to take towards your goals.
I also really like your wishes for our world in the future – like you, I really care about global warming, a clean environment and animal cruelty.
Thanks so much for these ideas – the other schools will really enjoy reading them…

Hello everyone,
This is Year 5 of 4/5 M with our thoughts about our future families, careers and wishes for the world.
Chyanne wants zero or one child, but definitely not more than one. Rachel would like three children: two girls and a boy. (She has two little sisters at her house, and thinks that two boys together might fight a lot.) Ben wants four kids: all boys, so he can play tag team wrestling games with them. Jacob wants four boys so they will play together and not fight. Josh also wants four boys, but he has no sisters so he’s not sure how he’d feel if he had a girl in his family.
Chyanne wants to be a stay-at-home mum, or maybe a professional dancer. She will need to practise and practise till she gets better. Her mentor is Miss Jackie, of the Ministry of Dance.
Rachel wants to be a daycare worker. She will need to study at TAFE, and do well at the HSC. Her big sister, Samantha, is already studying daycare at TAFE, and she would be her mentor.
Ben will join the army, or become a professional boxer. He needs to train, and learn boxing techniques. His dad held sporting records when he went to school in England, especially in javelin.
Jacob wants to be a NRL player. He will need to learn to play well. Preston Campbell would be a good mentor, because Jacob has been to his house.
Josh wants to be a policeman. He will need training in putting handcuffs on people. And how to use guns. Josh’s Uncle Steve is a policeman. He would be his mentor.
Our five top wishes for the world:
1. Make everyone rich.
2. Invent a car bed so you’d never have to get up.
3. Plant more trees so the world gets more oxygen.
4. Put more tiny bikes on the road, not more big cars.
5. Give everyone in the world a chance to be famous.

Good day 5B Besties, Bees and Grasshoppers and Year 5 of 4/5M at Penrith PS! Love your work…
I notice that 5B Besties has quite a number of people who are really interested in animals and a career related to animals – even though, of course, that is not everybody! Your wishes for the future are very pro-environment, which is fantastic!
5B Grasshoppers – I notice that you have gained a lot of your great ideas from family and friends about what you would like to do in the future as jobs – I was the same – we had some teachers in the family and that really inspired me. I think it’s easier to know where we are headed with our identities and future when we have examples and role models around us…
Year 5 of 4/5M – I really like what you have said – your wishes for the future are quite ingenious and creative, I must say – such as the car bed!!
Cheers
